VICE PRESIDENT'S CORNER:

For those of you that aren’t aware, the Lake Assn. lost our leader, Bill Griffith,
August 2006. His death was unexpected and a shock to all of us.

Five years ago I attended my first annual Lake Assn. meeting in May of Memorial
Day weekend. I knew Bill was interested in being president of the Association and I came to offer my support. What I didn’t expect was that his wife, Linda, would nominate me for vice president, a position I have held since that time. I
really enjoyed working with Bill.  He was a great leader and devoted much of his time for the best interest of our lake.

Now we need to elect a new president for our lake. Myself, I do not have the time
to devote to this position. I also regret to inform you that I will not be able to seek
re-election for vice president.

I feel, in the past five years, great strides have been made towards improving
our lake. Many of the residents have come to our meetings with their own ideas for making improvements to the lake.

I encourage you to step up and take your turn to serve as President, Vice President, Secretary or Treasurer. I still plan on donating my time to serve or volunteer for the Lake Assn. activities but I feel it is time for some new ideas to be brought forward and carried out by a new president and vice president.

Again, in closing, on behalf of the Lake Assn., officers, committee members and those actively involved in our lake’s well being, “Thank you Bill and Linda Griffith for all your dedication and for the time you have given to our lake.

Kevin Kolassa, Vice President, Twin Lakes of Matteson Assn.

Committees:

Fish Program:  Keith Mason, chairperson, 369-8369

Keith will be discussing this year’s re-stocking of Wall Eye from the  DNR at the May 26th meeting. The possible purchase of fish
from a fish farm will also be addressed. Keith has contacted Laggis fish farm and will be providing information to the membership at the May 26th  meeting.

It was suggested, at the April 24th meeting, that we designate our current small CD of $1,414.38 for a fish program and also a percentage of the money from our dues each year to the program.
It was also suggested that we put envelopes at the access and at the store for donation to the program. These suggestions will be discussed at the May 26th meeting.

Water Quality:

Weed control:  Reggie Anson, chairperson, 369-1044

Aquatic Enhancement:

Scott Banfield is recommending, per the MDEQ, that we change from the Reward herbicide to the Renovate herbicide. The MDEQ has made it clear that they prefer a systemic herbicide, like Renovate, be used.

A follow up treatment may not be needed.  The Board will decide, in the summer, if an additional treatment is warranted.

FUND RAISING PROJECTS

Bingo: Norma Snyder, chairperson, 369-9738.

A special thank you to Norma and the volunteers at last year’s Polish Days. The
Association netted $2086.00.

This year the Polish Festival Days will be July 19, 20 and 21. Volunteers can sign up at the May 26th meeting or by contacting Norma at 369-9738.

Norma informed the Board that she has decided to no longer chair the bingo fund raiser during Polish Days. She has agreed to co-chair this year with the person
who decides to volunteer to chair this event in the future.

Norma, we all thank you for the wonderful job that you have done as the Bingo chairperson. Matteson Lake bingo has been a success during Polish Days because of all of your hard work and dedication.

The Association would like to thank the committee for the effort and the time that
they have devoted to this project.

Feasibility Study Donors:

A special thank you to William Myers, Sherwood Hunter, Bob Swift, Jesse Fox, Allan Pignataro and Jill Neugebauer for their monetary donations making this study possible.

Sewer Petition:

James Eley, Attorney at Law, has drawn up the sewer petition and it will be available for signature at the May 26th  meeting. Members must include their property numbers with their signatures.

This petition needs 51% of the voters voting in favor of sending this to the Township.  The Township will then hold hearings and a final vote of the property owners before the sewer project can move forward.

ANNUAL DUES

The $25.00 annual dues can be paid at the May 26th  meeting, or by completing the information on the back page of the newsletter and sending it to the address listed or by paying your area representative.

The membership dues are payable the first of May each year.  The dues insure that you receive the newsletter and allows you the low cost of the week control. The remainder of the monies are banked to help other projects that the Board
feel are suitable for the lake. The projects include the fish program, advertising lake projects and any other projects that the lake residents agree upon.

There are currently 257 property owners at the lake and only 110 members of the Association. If you have friends or neighbors at the lake who are not
members please encourage them to join the Association. It takes everyone’s support to keep our lake clean and beautiful.

REMINDERS

hunting and fishing licenses. Help the store be successful.
